If this will be running by itself, change maintenance on the logical to *DLY - every update to a record involves updating the logical, so that could add a lot to the time. At the end, put maintenance back to *IMMED. You could do the same for FILE2 itself, so long as it does not use its own index. Also, unique indexes can't use the delayed option, IIRC.

FRCRATRIO should at least not be set to 1 - *NONE might be feasible.

A friend suggested changing some of the OVRDBF parms to help processing go faster, such as FRCRATIO and NBRRCDS. Any suggestions on how to set these parms? For that matter, any suggestions on how to speed up the update process? TIA.
