1st question - Are there other solutions other than IBM's to setup HTTP
access? Or is IBM the recommended solution?

I used it a couple of times as an experiment and didn't like it, but I
doubt I would like any http based access.
We got it as part of the package from using their Strategi software for our
Sales Force Automation:

If you look about half-way down the page, you will see "Southern Wine and
Spirits" under "Sales Force via the Web". That's us, except that most of
our distribution centers aren't using their software anymore! We developed
an in-house package to replace their software.
