In my experience the Line Interactive units don't last as long and
certainly don't provide the clean power that a true on-line unit does.
This is especially true where the power is poor to start with and the
line interactive units have to go in and out whenever the power
degrades, flickers, fades, blips or what-have-you. In the old days
the on-line units were large, noisy, inefficient, and expensive (like
the one in the corner of your computer room!) but today's units are much
smaller, quieter and more efficient while doing a better job too. APC
makes some nice stuff if you step up to the on-line style, we've
installed several of them.
