And a kind of secret: If you look back in the June '97 issue of Midrange Computing at a Significa column titled "Rebranding the AS/400", you'll see a plea for changing the name from 'AS/400' to something else... The author of the column? Al Barsa, Jr. Ah, well, that plea was satisfied by IBM's rebranding which resulted in the e(logo)Server iSeries. Unfortunately, Al's larger plea concerned the lack of marketing. Rebranding is pointless without any significant attempt to build new brand awareness.
