Yes you must use the SNA.IBM.COM suffix.
Yes you can use DNS. For example:
/QIBM/UserData/OS400/DNS/db.sna.ibm.com
; Forward mapping file @ IN SOA blah blah blah ; Name server SNA.IBM.COM IN NS mysystem.something.com ; Hosts SYS1.APPN IN NS 192.168.0.1 SYS2.APPN IN NS 192.168.9.3
This is for OS/400 DNS but DNS is DNS.
