Definitely the former.  Here is just one example - A couple with a net
worth of just over $2M.  He's a welder, she is a school teacher.  In any
given year they never made more than a combined $75K in salary.  They
didn't inherit any money, and they didn't win the lotto.  They saved
money every pay period and invested it boring low risk investments.  

Beyond that, you'll have to read the book for yourself.
