Different strokes, different folks. It's also very easy to right-click your session, then click a button to insert an attribute byte. And it seems to me more work and harder to remember to use keyboard mapping for all the combinations of underline, reverse image, and highlight, along with the colors. This popup keypad has all those, with . But that's just what floats MY boat.

Give some thought to creating your own keyboard mapping file? It is a lot
easier to hit alt-p to make pink characters. If you want a copy of the one
I use let me know and I'll send it. I also mapped alt-r to toggle my ruler
line on and off.

I have a popup keypad and supporting macros that has all the combinations
of colors and attributes. If anyone is interested, let me know off-list. It
is based, I think, on the rmb5250 keypad that is shipped with iSeries
Access (is it shipped with it?). It also has all the F-keys on a different
pad, and the other key functions on yet another pad.
