When we run the SAVSYS command to do a complete backup of our system, it bombs out when trying to back up a file in QGPL with the error code CPF3777. We answer the message with "G" to continue on with the backup and it completes OK.

The message on the job log is: JRNRCV AUDRCV0048 in library QGPL previously damaged.

I don't know what this file is used for. Does any one know if this is an imortant file or if it is OK to delete it (since it is already damaged)?

It's not a file. It is a journal receiver. Judging by its name it is used to hold records of auditing system functions. Auditing is controlled by the QAUDCTL and QAUDLVL system values.

You should change the receiver using the command:

        CHGJRN QAUDJRN JRNRCV(*GEN)

This will create a new receiver, attach it to the journal, and detach the old receiver. Then you can delete the old receiver. Deleting the receiver will break the journal receiver chain and lose the audit records contained in the receiver but since it is damaged that is somewhat moot.

Simon Coulter.
