An Automated and effective way to check for when 2 files get out of sync

HI I have a discrepancy w/ in an inventory item, because someone is able to 
move it to another season. I would like to put on a watcher to the two files 
and see when they get changed. Is this done by useing the system auditing, if 
so, is it  a one command thing to do, or more invovled?
