In my experience, if you import your graphics into Word (as opposed to
linking to the graphics image file), Word converts it to its own format.
Which results in something fatter than .PNG.

Me, I prefer to import one-use-only graphic images into the document.  The
way I figure it, PC hard disk is dirt cheap these days, and getting cheaper
by the minute.  What are the costs of ending up with a useless document if
the .doc file gets moved but the graphic files don't?

BTW, don't know how common knowledge this is, but if you mod a document and
save it several times before the finished product, do a Save As on the doc
to a new doc name, and see the difference in the file sizes.  All the
document's change history is kept between normal saves, but gets stripped on
a Save As.  It's my habit now to do that automatically after my docs are
done.

Another tip related to this: If you send resumes and cover letters via
attached doc files in email, you'd be wise to do this as well, especially if
you've used those docs for previous versions that have stuff in it you don't
want the next person to see (if they're snoopy enough).
