Those generated w/the 802 address (version 1) would be unique. However, I don't know which version the iSeries generated (guess I could look but I'm lazy) and in fairness I know MS switched to version 4 w/windows 2000. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President & CEO Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur. Since the standards specifically say that "is either guaranteed to be different from all other UUIDs/GUIDs generated until 3400 A.D. or extremely likely to be different (depending on the mechanism chosen)" But I looked into it again this morning and it seems IBM felt it was a bug <grin> http://www-912.ibm.com/n_dir/nas4apar.nsf/c79815e083182fec862564c00079d1 17/b d77c9a35a5eeb7186256ea6004f03c5?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,GENUUID http://tinyurl.com/3sgls Guess I should have followed up before saying anything!
