OK so looking at the
http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/linux/odbc/guide/cwbcoer.htm
for the 1003 rc-8405 error

8405 - The connection was initially established, but was disconnected by

I looks like there is a TCP/IP issue.  It could be routing or packet size.
