I think this is boiling down to a philosophical discussion as to whether 
or not being big is evil, corporations are only capable of evil and 
individuals are only capable of good.  And so on.  Getting rather outside 
the scope of this list, (even for a Friday), so I am going to duck out.

Well, because a large company can do it whether they have a better
product or not. A small company has to fight things like loss
leadership, tremendous marketing power, virtually unlimited legal (read
sue) power...etc.

Products are not chosen based on technical ability, they're chosen based
on marketing.
