Here's a link to a Tip from Ted Holt that does not DIRECTLY answer your
question, but does provide a code sample you can use to resolve your issue.
For your case, simply change the contents of the FTPIN file in this tip to
whatever FTP commands you want to execute, including that variable file
name.

Subject: Automating a FTP

I have a script file that handles ftp'ing a file from our Iseries to a 3rd
party.  There is now a request to change the file name when it it
sent.  Currently the file is something like this   RGCCS00H and we
perform a 'Put RGCCS00H RGCCS00H.txt.  Now they would like the file with the
current date in the name something like RGH062104.txt.  
I'm not sure if or how I can automate this in my script.  
Any ideas?
