I'm currently in the i5 LPAR Class at Rochester... Here's the scoop for
"Today"

First things first an "i5" must be sold with an i5/OS on it to be called
an i5 (ie 9406)

I'm being told that Linux will no longer run as a "Guest" running on top
of i5/OS.
It will run "Native" as a LPAR Partition as will AIX
Linux and AIX won't be supported on the i5 until 3rd Quarter

How this will affect Linux on 8xx hardware running 5.3, I don't know

Help!

Although I have been a participant in several IBM Focus Groups related to
the i5 (although I didn't know the name of the new system at the time -
they
were calling it Squadrons).

I thought I heard in these sessions that IBM would allow you to run Linux
on an i5 without any need for i5/OS, i.e., that Linux would run natively
on the
i5.

However, I haven't found this statement on IBM's web sites or in the i5
announcements.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

Regards,
Steve
