I don't quite understand your point :

Where is the problem when you want to write on a new subject to go to
the NEW button and to start writing from there, and then putting the
midrange-l address in ? Is it that people want to save the effort to
put in this "midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx" that causes them to use the
reply-to method ?
This is ridiculous to me, when I knew about how threads are organized
and how well it is to be followed after in your(my) own mail-folder(s),
thread-wise sorting seems the most sophistidcated way for me.

And I am not alone ... sigh

It is not the list archive software that we should blame. It is

perfectly

valid to have a series of related email messages (that's what a thread

is)

that have changing subjects. To match emails simply by subject may

often

give correct results, it is by no means fully inclusive.

But as John points out, in Outlook it is much easier to reply to a message than it is to create a new message and then change the To... field.

While I understand the issue of how posts are threaded, until Outlook
provides a "Start a new thread" checkbox (or menu option), then don't
expect things to change.
