His issue is that V4R4 CAE is not supported on Windows XP, which he needs to move to. As I stated, V4R4 crashes regularly on Windows XP and should not be used. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Liotta" <qsrvbas@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, June 04, 2004 4:49 PM Subject: RE: older client access and winXP > Jim: > > I'm not clear on what you actually need. Is this a case where the customer has only V4R5 Client Access CDs? or is this a case where there's a question whether or not a V4R4 system can be accessed with current versions of iSeries Access and WinXP? > > Just to get the comment into the thread, V5R2 iSeries Access connects with V4R4 fine at least via TCP/IP in case that's useful info for you. > > Actually, it might also be worthwhile to find out what the licensing rules really are for keeping client-side code current while allowing server-side to go off support. There are numerous sites that have an older AS/400 that's back-level while other AS/400s at the same site are current. Should I have to use an old Client Access version when I connect to that single system? Obviously, obtaining a legal copy of the client-side in the first place is the first problem. > > Tom Liotta > > midrange-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: > > > 3. older client access and winXP (Jim Franz) > > > >I have reviewed the support statements on the CA web page. > >A customer from the past is running V4R4, and > >CA Express V4.3 (5769-XE1) on Win 95 pc's. > >He needs to replace pc's (probably XP Pro) > >CA web page says CA Express V4r5 may work w/XP Pro > >but has not been tested.
