Is the Linux server available for other use? I _believe_ Sophos has this
ability for Linux. If so, it _might_ be a good choice as the controlling
system, maintaining the central update directory through Samba. It ought to
be a relatively low drain on it. The authority for the share could be
essentially *RWX for Linux-based access and only *RX for everybody else.

I had thought about that a few years back and this server was MIPS so no go
on Sophos. We upgrade to a Wintel version a year after that but got burned
BAD by a Samba attach to I am really gun shy about opening that back up...
