Have you considered gradually moving away from CL?
Here would be a good place to try it out.   Let the Initial program be the
RPGLE program, which is especially nice if you have to begin with a prompt
screen to get and validate values for your process.   Then use your RPGLE
program to call your CL.

HI I would like to calculate in CL, to take the current date, and to add 45
days to this, and pass this UDate+45 to an RPG program in the next CL
statement. (there are additional static parameters as well.)  IF I can't do
that I would like to call an RPG program that is making this calculation and
receive the params back in the calling CL program. I am very new to ILE. I
wrote a brief RPG ILE program to get this new date using ADDDUR. What would 
I need to do to make it an procedure that the CL can call? Unless of course,
the CL can do the work by itself.
