Is there any data conversion (encryption or anything else) involved while 
extracting data from AS400 to windows...

Noting that files can be created either from DDS or from SQL:

They look about the same either way to QuestView, except that those
created from SQL can have a few extra data types, some of which QuestView
can't access (and others of which QV can access even though they aren't
*supposed* to be accessible from non-SQL programs).

Likewise, if I look at them using Colin Bell's Java-based "Squirrel" SQL
client (a bit nutty, but it works), it can't tell the difference between
DDS-created and SQL-created files.
