Re: the whoops! and off site tape storage

Are fireproof safes capable of preserving magnetic info?  The temperature
inside most fireproof safes rises well above the threshold of saving data.

Today is Friday.
Night operator comes in to work with Wednesday night's tapes and puts
them in the fireproof safe.
Night operator takes last Friday's tapes out of the safe and backs up
on them.
Night operator leaves and takes tonight's tapes home.
On Monday, the Thursday tapes come in to the safe, etc.
 
Result:
Two most recent backups are offsite, previous two weeks are in the
safe.  There is a small overlap where only one set of tapes is
offsite, but it was deemed acceptable.
