While I didn't start the thread on reorgs, I though I'd pass along what we just did this weekend. JDE database, F0911 file--the account ledger. The file was 17+GB and has 59 LFs associated with it. About 27 million records. We purged a lot of transactions and basically got up to 9 million deleted records. Even with Reuse Deleted that was going to waste a lot of space for quite some time so we reorged the file this past weekend. Prior to the reorg I identified 16 of the 59 LFs that aren't actively used by our shop. The app folks didn't want to delete them so I compromised by setting them to delayed maintenance. So the reorg really included 43 active LFs. I also stopped journalling on the file for the duration of the reorg. We also preceded the reorg with a full system save, which we run weekly anyway. The system was not technically in a restricted state, however all unneeded subsystems were shut down and users were locked out. It was thus effectively restricted as only the admins could access anything. The reorg was run from the console. Processing time: 12h45m Size before: 17+GB Size after: 11.2GB Deleted records before: 9+ million Deleted records after: 0 Backup performance: 20 minutes quicker (3580-H23) Hardware: 730-2067, 14GB RAM, 54 disks in the ASP. Suffice to say we're quite pleased with the results. John A. Jones Americas Security Officer Jones Lang LaSalle, Inc.
