What release Joe? We are doing things this way now (v5r2). We load everything (19 cds) to image catalog and option 8 from optvrt01 and everything gets installed. Fifteen years on the platform, only once unplanned down for 14 hours due to a hardware problem but thanks to these High Availability solutions everything went well.... I've done all manner of evil things to midrange boxes, but the latest was pretty cool, even by my standards. I ignored the directions and tried to load a bunch of groups and cumes all at the same time and managed to trash the link loader. Basically, I wiped out the OS. Called IBM, and within an hour and a half had reloaded the SLIC and got the machine up and running without losing a single byte of data. Try THAT on your favorite PC platform.
