Jim, Good luck with your application upgrades, showing them just what the box can do, and nudging them to new hardware. I think you are spot on. I hear you about the peripherals. When we moved from the S/36 I was instructed to look at Wang VS. I've actually worked on one before so I didn't mind (well not 100%). But we had $250,000+ tied up in twinax terminals and printers. That is no longer the case. Twinax doesn't leave the computer room. I've got a little side work I am trying to line up. I'd love to get them off of 450 on to the latest and get their 7xx upgraded with this promo going on now. However that real estate sign in their front lawn has me concerned. (Bet that I don't let them wait until end of contract to pay?) Unless they are out of disk or performance, you are right, they won't move. But some fairly basic app stuff will get them buying. These are not Websphere potentials. They also don't want to throw out wiring, printer, and network infrastructure to bring in a different hardware platform. But there is something about a "promo" that nudges people along, and why I think IBM should keep a tradein going. IBM can contract someone else to pickup/dispose for a few hundred. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don" <dr2@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 11:35 AM Subject: upgrade discounts for existing systems from IBM... > > > Ya know, you would think that IBM would make it more inticing to > upgrade...
