You might consider QShell - this command

ls -RlF /qdls

will show you a list of eveything in /qdls, including subdirectories (-R option for recursive), with a suffix for file type (* means executable, / means a directory, IIRC - activated by the -F option), as well as a wide layout (-l option) with size and date and owner and other info. You can even redirect this to a physical file, where you could read it and do various counts at level breaks, etc. Sort of - the records have differing layouts.

Anyway, just a thought. Others might be able to tell you how to use grep or sed to filter things and get a better output. Or even write a QShell script that'd do the job for you.
