James, Ops Console has been so bad that I am glad to see that they are taking a fresh approach with Linux. I do not think the bad reputation of Ops Console is all IBM's, they could never get what was really needed from MS soon enough and they were constantly chasing it. That's one product that I would gladly dig a hole for IBM to bury that product in! :-) Regards, Mike Shaw -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of James H H Lampert Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 9:43 AM To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: P5 technology question. > My question is, what's the scuttlebutt? Well, technically, the scuttlebutt is a barrel (or "butt") with a hole (or "scuttle") cut into it, used to store drinking water on a sailing ship. Effectively a pre-20th-century version of the drinking fountain. Seriously, I wouldn't mind one bit, seeing a built-in console added to the next generation of AS/400s, as long as it eliminates the need for all those silly CA/Windoze-based things like OpsConsole, OpsNav, &c. And if it's Linux-based, it's certainly an improvement over something Windoze-based. Although I'd still prefer for IBM to stop making such a show of abandoning Twinax. -- JHHL _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
