There are different types of level checking, but the one that causes
programs to end in error is the "record format level check."

Since excluding records does not change the record format, it will not
cause a record format level check...

When you have a simple question like this, it's a good idea to try to test
the situation yourself before posting it to a list.  You can create an LF
in a different library that does the record omission, and modify your
library list and see if the existing programs blow up.  If they don't, you
know that it's safe and can change the version in the production library.

That way, you'll know for sure, AND you'll have saved yourself time
getting an answer.
