Thanks for the tip. I will check it out. 

The storage type default in V5R2 is *TYPE2, so we're already there, but 
this new attribute might do the trick. 

Do you know if this attribute will re-allocate/minimize storage for a file 
that already exists ?

I don't know if this will help or not in your current situation but in 
V5R2
the attribute QP0L_ATTR_DISK_STG_OPT was added to Qp0lSetAttr() to allow
you more control over auxiliary storage usage.  QP0L_STG_MINIMIZE might be
worth looking at.
