Hi Scott, I have created the command with the maximum lenght so that the user must always specify 2048 as parameter length. I can continue with the normal programming. My idea of the command is not possible, it cant be done with the iSeries. If you want to boldly go where no man has gone before than I am happy to keep this thread alive. I will post my further findings anyway. Further investigations: With debug i have checked the result of the parameter that i use as the RTNVAL in the command. I would expect that any changes in the RPGLE parameter will directly be reflected in the value of the calling program if the parameter is passed by reference. This is not the case, suggesting that there is a buffer between the CL and the CPP. I also have a very hard time finding a manual describing the behaviour of commands in combination with RTNVAL PARMS. regards, Wim
