whether the file output approach is good or bad is probably dependent on what the requirements of your application are - in particular the input/output flow currently in place to create the data you are after in the first place.

With respect to the OLE DB driver, surely MicroSoft tested it thoroughly before they shipped it ;)

If you are looking to read a table then set up ODBC. Spend a day or two seeing if the OLE-DB thing works once you have the ODBC sorted as then you always have a plan to fall back on.

Thanks for the tip re CPYTOIMPF and CPYTOSMTF
Im a bit rusty as I no longer have the trusty  Model 500 to set up a test
lab trial
I still think ODBC or OLE DB access is much better--problem is I cant seem
to find anyone
who has tested the Microsoft  OLE DB provider that ships with Host
Integration Server.
It would be a shame in this day an age to resort to file output
