Jeff, I've been using Standguard for a few months now. Right now I have absolutely no complaints. I do know other shops are using their standard AV program and scanning the IFS on the iSeries through mapped drives. We were doing the same but decided to implement Standguard due to performance reasons and other issues with our AV vendor. It sounds like some other people on this list have not had the problems that we've had so take my claim with a grain of salt. My iSeries systems have a decent amount of IFS objects and with our previous AV product (not to be mentioned) one of my systems was actually taking over 6 hours to scan. With Standguard I'm down to 1 hour. I do know that Norton also makes something for the iSeries but I really am not aware of what it does or doesn't do. I believe it is a Lotus Domino interface. Another point I would like to make is that from a security perspective our company actually prefers to not use just one AV product. So while being integrated with my LAN counterparts could be nice we also specifically chose to use a second product for that reason also. The logic being is that having more than one vendor might improve scanning on our systems in total. Not all AV products are perfect, not all work exactly the same, not all are updated in the same manner, etc., etc. Sounds nice anyway. So far I like what I see. Job schedule entries update virus defs and do an IFS scan. The trial will only scan QIBM and it's subdirectories, however. It also has an SMTP component that, if you are using the iSeries messaging facility, will check all incoming mail for viruses and forward them to whatever email address you say. I set it to forward them all to me. Overnight we got that new virus 30 times. Is anyone out there currently using this? How is it over time? -- Jeff Crosby Dilgard Frozen Foods, Inc. P.O.
