thanks :) I am looking at the JavaMail solution. I worked with Mike a bit (probably a year ago now) and his JavaMail implementation. I have received a working example from Aaron Bartell (on the RPG list). I think this is the route to take. Fortunately we encapsulated the call to the API within the RPG programs, so the impact for such a change will only be to one program. We created a system where we cave all of the email information in a file set, then call the program containing the API. Using JavaMail, it looks like the integration will not be too difficult.
