You can even do a manual IPL of the primary partition to DST and stop
there. The other partitions will IPL and if they were set for normal
IPL, can continue on, complete their IPL and start full operations.
This allows you to do long maintenance on the primary partition (i.e.
disk configuration) without having to keep secondary partitions down.
For those of us without thin managing partitions, it's great.

On our primary partition we can do an
ENDSBS *ALL *IMMED
RCLSTG
etc
and the other partitions stay running fat and happy.
The only thing we cannot do is IPL that partition.
We do this every 8 weeks.

SAVE menu option 21...safe with LPAR and IxS?

Trying to decide if it is ok to run a SAVE menu option 21 on the primary
partition of an LPAR'd system without manually bring down the other
partitions first. We also have an IxS installed, but that should be
safely
taken care of by the "Vary off Network Servers Option" correct?

Assuming Save menu option 21 does safely shut down the other partitions
(all
OS/400); is it possible to make use same routine in my own CL program.
For
that matter, is there any way to make use of the "Vary off Network
Servers"
option?

I've long-used a custom version of QMNSRBND on a non-LPAR'd system. But

I'm
wondering about using the same code on an LPAR'd box. Also, I have a
need for a CL that simply waits till a set time an does a PWRDWNSYS
RESTART(*YES)
IPLSRC(B). I was looking at the QMNSRBND for shutdown code examples.
Thus,
the question about using IBM routines for shutdown of the IxS and the
other
partitions.

Thanks in advance,
Charles Wilt
