Brad,
I use Sniffer Basic I picked up from Network Associates a few years ago. I'm
not sure they still offer it, but I can "sniff" packets to/from any machine
in my network and outside traffic going and coming.

Is there any way to run a trace, like that found with
TRCTCPAPP, on a 3rd party client application?

I am running my GETURI app making an SSL request to a
server.  I'd like to see some trace information (mainly the
SSL details, handshake, etc) if it's availble.
