James, I guess I don't understand what you are trying to circumvent...... The low battery warning signal was sent by the UPS because your batteries are fried. Once you replace the batteries, the unit should NOT send the low battery signal until the batteries run out of power. On a properly functioning UPS, the normal sequence would be 1. power interuption 2. ups signals BATTERY POWER 3. time goes by 4. power is restored, UPS signals UTILITY POWER OR 5. batteries weaken, UPS signals LOW BATTERY 6. AS400 sees that the UPS is still on battery power and the batteries are running out, so it initiates an immediate shutdown to protect the system from power failure.
