The stuff we're offshoring is getting scary. I spoke with a company the other day in which ALL their AS400 development is done in India, just night support and such in the states. Then today I saw this article in money.cnn about companies sending our income tax information to India. This is stuff I don't even share with my relatives (well, especially my relatives). http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/30/pf/offshorejob/index.htm This seems to me to be approaching a matter of national security. Concidentally, I spoke to a credit card processing company a couple months ago regarding a charge from India. He told me that 99% of online credit charges originating in India (to name one of a few countries) is fraudulent. I don't know what, but something has to be done. I'm normally a smaller-government proponent, but Uncle Sam has got to put a tax or tariff or something to make all this a little less attractive. With so many un-employed techies in the US, I just don't think the argument of "we couldn't find an American" will hold up. Truth is, "we couldn't find an American who can live like a king on $20,000 per year". My step-son, a true geek-in-training, is a freshman at Tech. He started out a CS major, but decided to change after looking at the job potential and the rising trend to get cheap IT labor offshore. If a lot of our children make similar decisions, we really will have a technology shortage in just a few years. No demand = no new graduates. My advisor in college was the Atlanta Journal-Constitution want ad section. Okay, I'll hush. AS/Resources, Inc.
