Native DDS can probably handle most barcode printing. Go to
<http://www.printers.ibm.com/R5PSC.NSF/Web/4sample> to download a sampler
of what can be done, including barcodes. In your program you just put in
the text and it gets printed where you want, in the format you want. It
works best if going to an IPDS printer, but Host Print Transform lets you
use just about any kind of printer. It does not need to be a dedicated
barcode printer.
Scanning hardware includes keyboard wedges - check with a local scanning
distributor. OTOH, I wrote a VB app that front-ended a 400, using a
PC-connected scanner and electronic scale for a shipping department
manifest kind of thing.
