I'd recommend going with APC. Very reputable company, and they do offer a cabling kit specifically to pass status messages to AS/400s. As to sizing, APC may or may not list various AS/400 models in the sizing utility on their web site; if they don't, you should be able to dig up the specs on power consumption for the various units. Note that the largest UPSs do require a dedicated 20A power socket. In our own operation, we have a pair of APC Smart-UPS 2200s, with a 510 (2 boxes, 1 hat) running on one, a 170 running on the other, and various WinDoze boxes, Linux boxes, and ancillary equipment, as well as an intermittently-used 200 and an intermittently-used 40S, split between the two, for an even load. -- James H.
