Rob, A SAVF is a special kind of file that is the container for the output of the SAVOBJ or SAVLIB command. Basically, the only difference between a save file and a SAVOBJ or SAVLIB on a tape is the media used to store it. The former exists on the system's auxiliary storage (disk), while the latter exists on a tape. Some applications may save certain or all files to a save file before processing to give a faster way of recovering in the event of having to re-run the process if it crashes. This can be much faster than saving to/restoring from a tape. Steve Landess Austin, Texas (512) 423-0935
