You're the beneficiary of Moore's Law (every 18 months, computer performance doubles and cost is halved), low interest rates, increased DASD density, improved reliability, and perhaps an IBM promotion or two!

You might also be moving down a software tier, as well!

Your company is probably at its lease-end period for the existing processor. Leasing is good for both IBM and customers:
- IBM - continued sale of new iron
- Customers - You pay for what you use ... an step into the latest technology every "n" years

We own our company's office building, but we always lease our AS/400's ... even though it is a pain to migrate every few years.

The only reasons to NOT upgrade now would be:
- The Fall is your busy season
- You are "afraid of / don't want to take the time to do" the migration between machines
- You think that there MIGHT be a better IBM promotion available soon (not likely ... most of the current promotions expire 12/21/03) that would drive down the price more
- You plan to leave your job in a month <grin>

Hi Tim,

Take a look at the minimum CPW requirements for Websphere. I think it is
1070. So, do you have enough horses for the WDS stuff?
