Not all the commercial distros offer downloadable CD images. Lindows 
doesn't, and neither does Xandros. Usually because the version includes 
third party software (like StarOffice) that can't be redistributed. SuSE 
offers the live CD (run from CD, no install to disk) or the FTP install 
option. Others like Libranet offer the prior to current version for 
download. I wish RedHat offered their iSeries version for download ;)

As an aside, Lycoris was mentioned earlier as a derivative of Debian. It 
was originally based on Caldera OpenLinux, from what I remember, at a 
time when Caldera (now SCO) were more friendly with the open source 
community...

Places like http://www.cheapbytes.com will sell you CD sets of the 
download images for very little - useful if you don't have access to a CD 
burner.
