I just went through my "toolkit" and found a command that I had written a looong time ago when I had to support customers in mixed native/S36 environment. Similar to another command that I retrieved from one of the mid-range sites, FI2DDS, this command is DDS2FI. It will take a DDS source member and create the corresponding RPG F&I specifications. If you think it might be of some use, I'd be happy to pass it along. -----Original Message----- From: Pat Barber Sent: Thursday, August 28, 2003 10:03 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: RPG36 using externally described files That's not correct. Any RPG36 program can use a external file just fine. They can't use the external descriptions, but they work just fine. You are correct that conversion from RPG36 to RPG requires a few lines of change, but you should have mentioned that the programs will react much differently and that requires several operational changes. An example of that is that a RPG36 program can create file, while a RPG program can not. This is a major difference. The conversion process requires some thought and planning.
