I've got an HP4050TN hooked up to the network here, and it can accept Postscript or PCL jobs.

The only 'special' bit to be done is to convince the AS/400 to convert from EBCDIC to ASCII, but to do no other types of conversion. I found that work station customization object QWPDEFAULT in library QSYS filled the bill nicely.
