No one is speaking up?

Coincidently, I was taking a couple of vacation days off on Thursday and
Friday. Sylvana and I had a couple of baby sitters lined up for both days
so we could celebrate our anniversary going out to dinner, shooting some
pool (her choice!), and seeing a movie. I took the black-out in stride, but
Syl was really quite angry when all that had to be cancelled. Still, the
candles were romantic, and we could see the stars outside, rather rare for
this city.

Fortunately, power came back on at our house 12 hours later, while most of
the rest of Scarborough was still in the dark. We think we got our power
back sooner since we're relatively close to a police station and a water
tower, but who knows?

I have no idea how the systems at work managed. I suspect few bothered going
to work on Friday. Unlike almost all of our customers, we really don't need
24/7 uptime for our lab machines.

For us in Ontario, the really interesting events are yet to come. The
political fallout for the party in power will be fun to watch. An election
was expected in the fall, but I wouldn't be surprised if they delay the
call until spring.

Cheers! Hans
