If you want a free, user-controlled method for getting AS/400 spooled
files to the desktop as text files, you could try using iSeries
navigator.  The user can drag their spool file to the desktop and it
will convert to an ASCII text file.  As far as I know they won't be able
to select a page range; but once it's on their desktop, they could load
a selected portion of the file into a word processor and then print that
piece.
