Your're right David,
The lock is a 4 position, single gang switch (5 wires). It can be easily removed/disconnected and then jumpered to Manual or rewired with a SPDT switch for Normal/Manual selection (Secure/Auto settings are probably not needed).

You could also remove the panel with the key and 'hot wire' it ifnecessary.
The rocker switch on my old E45 (yes, it still works) is failing. Alittle
WD40 usually gets it working again, but on one occasion I pulled off the panel and used a paper clip to get the machine booted up.
