We are still at V5R1 and use XOR for computing LRC. Sure hope it doesn't
break. We would not be able to validate POS terminal strings with incorrect
results.

Do these problems have anything to do with the C XOR commands? Had a small
program here in C that used a series of XOR 's to the characters of a string
to come up with a check digit. After upgrading from V5R1 to V5R2, the check
digit started coming out the same value no matter what string that we passed
to it. IBM is having trouble duplicating the problem on their R5V2 machine.
Has anyone else had problems with the C XOR?
