My pro-iSeries comments only pertain to protected applications and data. In my opinion, using any other platform for public, static, unprotected content is fine! I do argue AGAINST two (2) separate boxes for hosting protected applications. I believe that design generally introduces security vulnerabilities as well as performance problems. Using a separate box to filter undesirable traffic is great! They call it a firewall! Using a DMZ to separate an iSeries server from direct public access is great! Placing the iSeries server behind a DMZ in a trusted LAN is great! Developing a home-grown security interface between the HTTP Server and applications is great! That interface can be done on a single box! Nathan M. Andelin www.relational-data.com
