The Microsoft Player does the same thing and more, Joe. It also decides if you have the right to see/hear various types of files. It is also moving towards validating copyright permissions. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: Friday, August 01, 2003 11:17:28 PM To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' Subject: RE: Janet Krueger on CBS.... > From: Don > > It's also viewable on thier web page > http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/07/17/national/main563855.shtml > > Clickon one of the video presentations on the right and wait for the index > to come up, then look for the IBM article.... Oops. Unfortunately, CBS has decided to go purely RealVideo, and I won't put RealPlayer on any machine I own. I don't have the time to chase down the facts, but I've heard enough rumors that the following rings true: "Yes, it is spyware. It tells you right in the 'agreement' when you install it. The program send back information to the head office about what you play, watch and listen to on your PC." Not particularly something I want to deal with. Then again, I think the MS player does much the same thing. <<sigh>> Joe
