Thanks, but I'm using something completely different - not PRTFs but physical files - *OUTFILE, not *PRINT. The layout has been basically the same since V3R7, as far as I know, so can be used instead of spooled files, which suffer from release changes. The V5R2 layout of QPTAPDSP is very different from that of earlier releases - larger values for various sequence numbers, e.g.

By reverse-engineering from the spooled files, I meant by comparing the physical file layout to the values in the spooled files - should have been clearer. <g>

At any rate, DSPFFD shows nothing for these PRTFs, and this seems the case for most IBM-supplied PRTFs, as I recall.

Vern,

DSPTAP has two PRTF's for output: QPTAPDSP and QPSRODSP (in save/restore format). Can't you not do a DSPFFD on those PRTF's to see what elusive fieldnames and fieldtexts IBM uses for the different lay outs.

Unless you mean something completely different with "templates"?

Just a suggestion.
